A Legacy in Moments

Flagstaff photographer John Running has a photographic career that spans decades, genres and styles. But Running has sustained and endured. Now, he is preserving his legacy with a transfer of thousands of images to Northern Arizona University, to be honored this month with a special exhibit.

Strolling the Park
With cooler temperatures and thinner crowds, we offer a packed day or weekend trip of ideas for revisiting Grand Canyon National Park. This time, we create a strolling guide for a leisurely yet epic way to enjoy the great gorge.

DEPARTMENTS

The Dish
Brandy’s Restaurant has been as much as a breakfast staple in Flagstaff as the eggs they serve. But the founders and longtime owners have stepped down and passed the place on to new ownership. We meet them and learn of the torch they look to bear.

BOTTLES & SPIRITS
Earlier this year, we reviewed three local micro-brewed beers that caught the attention of our palate. With Ocktoberfest and all the beery goodness of that event this month, we thought we’d hoist again some favorites on tap.

ART SEEN
Hozhoni Foundation has a longtime mentor and celebrated artist in Robert Zappanti, who continues to make stunning and bright art.

SOUND AND STAGE
Flagstaff’s literary scene has signs of an upswing. We have the previously featured Barley Rhymes, the active slam poet scene and also the Narrow Chimney Reading Series, which has become a staple event at Uptown Billiards.

MIND & BODY
With Halloween and the eating holidays that are soon to arrive on the calendar, we look at the recent studies that suggest sugar is addictive like a drug and can have serious health impacts.

NATURAL SELECTIONS
While the wildflower season wilts, lowland deserts and canyon floors offer one last bloom with the sacred datura, which tends to show itself in these places in August, September and October.

HOMES AND SPACES
As the holiday visiting season rolls around, we look at a guest home upgrade at a west downtown residence.

DÉCOR AND MORE
With the weather taking a cooler turn, it’s a chance to look at fun ways to spruce up or improve the game room or indoor game fun.
